Christie Gold, Editor/Publisher

Christie Gold teaches online and print journalism in Tampa, FL.  Over the past 15-years, her newspaper staffs have earned top honors from state, regional and national scholastic press associations, and her students have graduated from the country's top schools of journalism and today work in a variety of media. Gold was the Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year in 2002 (then the 11th largest school district in the nation); in 2003, she was the Florida Journalism Teacher of the Year.  Twice she has been a finalist for the Dow Jones National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year.  She has served as Chair of the Southern Interscholastic Press Association and is a regular contributor to The Tampa Tribune.  She has been a teacher in residence at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, and a faculty member for the American Society of Newspaper Editors High School Journalism Program and Carolina Journalism Institute. She holds a MA in English Education and a BA in English and American Literature with a minor in art history from the University of South Florida. 

Gold is a USDF Bronze Medalist and has shown through 4th level on two self-trained horses.  She has also evented through training level.  She lives and trains on her small farm in Wesley Chapel, FL. 


Jane Whitehurst, Senior Contributor

Florida native Jane Whitehurst is a 1982 University of Florida graduate in the College of Agriculture where she majored in Animal Sciences.  In 1985, she received her Master's degree from Nova University in Educational Leadership. 

Whitehurst recently retired from 20 years of teaching high school and is working on becoming a writer. She is currently working on her second novel.  For 25 years, she has been an active participant in dressage holding a USDF Bronze and Silver Medal. She currently has two scores toward her Gold. 

Whitehurst is married and owns two horses, two cats, one dog and a tank full of tropical fish.
